School of Energy and Power Engineering held laboratory safety training and emergency drills

The summer is the peak time for the majority of teachers and students to do experiments. In order to further enhance the safety awareness and protection skills of our teachers and students, strengthen laboratory safety management and create a good and safe experimental environment, on the afternoon of July 10, 2020, the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Chongqing University held a laboratory safety management training meeting in Room 301 of the school building. This training meeting specially invited Mr. Yushi Xiao from Chongqing University as the keynote speaker. Professor Li Jun presided over and conducted emergency drills on the basketball court in front of the college building after the training meeting. The teachers and laboratory personnel responsible for the safety management of each laboratory participated in this training and exercise.

Before the start of the training meeting, Li Jun, the deputy dean of the college, emphasized the main purpose of the meeting and the importance of safety training and safety management. It is hoped that through this training, the safety awareness of teachers and students of our school will be improved, the importance of laboratory safety will be clarified, and self-emergency and protection capabilities will be further improved.

At the training meeting, Teacher Xiao Yushi first took the laboratory safety accident of Beijing Jiaotong University as the starting point, telling everyone that "the danger is all around", and emphasized the importance of laboratory safety regulations. Then, Mr. Xiao pushed forward step by step, and briefly explained the common hidden safety hazards in the laboratory from the cause of the accident, explained how to call the police, extinguishing fire and escape, and other fire fighting knowledge, and emphasized the relevant precautions. For example, how to correctly explain the location and situation of the fire when calling 119, basic knowledge of combustion, common fire fighting methods and corresponding fire extinguishing agent classifications, etc. With regard to escape knowledge, Mr. Xiao highlighted everyone’s usual misunderstandings and explained the correct escape method. Teacher Xiao also mentioned that the teachers and students in the school are actually very concerned about safety issues. The Security Office often receives feedback from everyone and makes corresponding adjustments in the first time. I hope everyone can pay enough attention to the safety of the laboratory. Finally, Mr. Xiao also showed everyone how to use fire-fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants and fire blankets, and invited teachers and students to participate in interaction.

Finally, everyone went to the sports field in front of the college for emergency drills of simulated smoke escape and simulated fire fighting. Not only the students participated actively, but the teachers also actively entered the experience hall to practice. Everyone said that they not only learned theoretical knowledge, but also conducted exercises and applications, mastered fire-fighting skills, improved their self-rescue ability, and at the same time enhanced their safety awareness and clarified the importance of safety.
